4. La La Land

I, like most people, was totally bowled over by Whiplash, the directorial debut from Damien Chazelle, and when I found out his next film would be a musical, I was ecstatic (if you didn’t know I love musicals, you do now). Then, he cast people who can sing, like Emma Stone and J.K. Simmons, reuniting with his Whiplash director. I don’t know if Ryan Gosling, who is the co-lead with Stone, can sing, but I am eager to find out. At least we already know those two already have great chemistry with each other. I do not think Chazelle will be a one-hit wonder, but if La La Land is half as good as Whiplash, it’ll be a good time in the theater.

La La Land will be released July 15, 2016.
